Michele Benzamin-Miki is an artist, meditation teacher, and visual dream journalist whose work emerges from five decades of contemplative practice. Her drawings and paintings explore the liminal territories between dreaming and waking, the unconscious and the conscious, the human and the luminous. Working in pencil, colored pencil, sumi ink, and colored inks, she creates images of extraordinary psychological and spiritual depth — works that function simultaneously as art objects and as records of an inner life of rare richness and discipline.

“Studying and teaching meditation since the late 70’s, I learned how to still the body and mind, just like a stone Buddha. In the light of five decades of meditation practice, I now see that the human condition is illuminated by meditating, which brings about a different kind of ecstasy, a voluntary suffering under fire, rather than simply the relief of ecstatic states that come from tranquility, or fulfilling our desire for an enlightenment.”
