“Keith Classic”  Limited Edition Print

Photographed in Los Angeles in 1972 by Norman Seeff, “Keith Classic” captures Keith Richards during the sessions connected to the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. era one of the most celebrated and mythologized periods in rock and roll history.

Seeff described Richards as the “quintessential rock musician” — completely unpretentious and entirely comfortable in his own skin during the shoot. That quality is visible in the image: Richards at ease, unguarded, the embodiment of a certain kind of rock and roll authenticity that no amount of performance could manufacture. It is a portrait of a man who had nothing to prove.

As guitarist and co-founder of the Rolling Stones, and co-principal songwriter alongside Mick Jagger, Richards created what many consider rock’s greatest single body of riffs — a virtuosity rooted in Chicago blues and expressed through the weaving guitar interplay that defined the Stones’ sound. His catalog includes “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Honky Tonk Women,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” By 1972, with Exile on Main St., that body of work had reached its apex.
