Karl Larsen is a Los Angeles-based photographer whose work documents the rock and roll world from the inside — the clubs, the streets, the backstage moments, and the cultural landmarks of a city that has always been inseparable from the music that came out of it. His images are the product of access, of relationships built over decades, of being in the right place because he was always already there.

Slash and Tommy Lee is a photograph of two of rock's most iconic figures caught in the same frame — the top-hatted guitarist of Guns N' Roses and the tattooed drummer of Mötley Crüe, two men who between them helped define the sound and look of Los Angeles rock in the 1980s and beyond. Larsen photographs them with the ease of someone who knows these men, capturing a moment of genuine connection between two legends who have lived parallel lives in the same city for decades.
