Karl Larsen is a Los Angeles-based photographer whose work documents the rock and roll world from the inside — the clubs, the streets, the backstage moments, and the cultural landmarks of a city that has always been inseparable from the music that came out of it. His images are the product of access, of relationships built over decades, of being in the right place because he was always already there.

Canter's Deli was captured on March 24, 2022 — a rare foggy night on Fairfax Avenue — featuring a 1967 Pontiac GTO owned by legendary DJ Rodney Bingenheimer. A Hollywood institution since 1976, Rodney has been a fixture on late-night radio and a regular at Canter's, often parking his beloved GTO nearby after his shifts. On this particular night, the fog and the glow of the neon marquee conspired to create something extraordinary: the car illuminated beneath the sign, the street quiet, the scene suspended in time. Shortly after this photograph was taken, Rodney lost his driver's license — making this one of the last times he drove his GTO. Larsen was there to capture it. This is Hollywood history, frozen in a single frame.
