Blondie, New York 1979 — Chelsea Hotel Color
Limited Edition Fine Art Photography

Norman Seeff's 1979 session with Blondie at the Chelsea Hotel captures the band at the peak of their cultural moment — the year Heart of Glass crossed from the underground into the mainstream and Debbie Harry became one of the defining faces of an era. The Chelsea Hotel, itself a monument to New York's artistic counterculture, provides the perfect backdrop: a place where punk, new wave, and art had been colliding for years before the cameras arrived.

Co-founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, Blondie were pioneers of the American punk and new wave scene that emerged from mid-1970s New York. From underground origins they achieved worldwide recognition, selling over 40 million records and earning induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Seeff's color portrait captures the band in the full flush of that ascent.
